Flowable composites, or ‘flowables,’ are more than just fluid composite – they’re incredibly versatile materials that present a number of restorative opportunities. Learn when and how to utilize flowables, and what they have to offer.
Flowable composites were first introduced in the late 1990s as an alternative to traditional, packable composites. While these low viscosity materials are well known for their versatility, flow characteristics, and adaptation, they’re not often a clinician’s first choice. To help you “go with the flow,” we’ve compiled a list of tips for success when using flowable restoratives.
NOTE: Resin Modified Glass Ionomers (RMGIs) are a solid alternative to flowable composites – both can be used successfully to line a restoration
Flowable composites are more than meets the eye: in addition to improving flow, these versatile materials can also help you streamline your procedures. They’re a valuable tool for your practice – especially if you know your material inside and out, and are therefore comfortable enough to take advantage of everything it has to offer.
