Long-term monitoring of endodontically treated teeth shows that the most common reason for tooth extraction is an unfavorable fracture of the crown and root of the tooth. When evaluating the outcome of an endodontically treated tooth, the endodontic and periodontal status of the tooth and the possibility of tooth restoration should be taken into account. A small amount of remaining tooth structure is an objective indicator of an unfavorable outcome of an endodontically treated tooth and an increased tendency of the tooth to crack. One of the important factors in the prevention of fractures is the correct choice and technique of placing the post-endodontic restoration.
The lecture will explain the role of the latest composite materials, composite cements and adhesives in the prevention of fractures and reinfection of endodontically treated teeth.
