IDS 2025: A source of fresh ideas allowing us to never stop solving for you

The 41st International Dental Show in Cologne has come to a close on March 30, 2025 and our teams have returned to their offices and research labs in Seefeld, Saint Paul and many other locations around the world. Many of us simply could not wait to return to their workplaces and start solving newly identified challenges of dental professionals and putting new ideas into practice.

According to Koelnmesse, approximately 135,000 visitors from 156 countries attended this year’s IDS. The number of exhibitors exceeded 2,000, the level of internationality was once again high – as was the interest in high-quality solutions and detailed information about innovative products and techniques. This spirit was also tangible at the Solventum booth: Visitors from all over the world seized the opportunity to talk first-hand to the developers and inventors of products which are used in their practices every day. Moreover, they were eager to see, touch and experience Solventum’s latest innovations developed to solve some of their biggest challenges in a groundbreaking way. For example,

  • 3M™ Clarity™ Aligners with 3M™ Clarity™ Precision Grip Attachments optimize orthodontic measures, e.g. prior to restorative treatments:
The aligners are available in two thicknesses to always allow for an optimum force level. The world’s first 3D-printed attachment system is supplied in a tray and enables very precise transfer of the planned attachment positions to the patient’s mouth.
  • 3M™ Clinpro™ Clear Fluoride Treatment provides for an improved patient experience:
Thanks to a simplified, water-based formula without sticky rosin, it goes on fast, creates a smooth coating, and leaves teeth feeling clean and fresh – no sticky residue on the teeth. In addition, patients can eat and drink again just 15 minutes after treatment.
  • 3M™ Filtek™ Easy Match Universal Restorative simplifies shade selection for direct anterior and posterior single-shade restorations:
It is available in just three shades, which cover the entire VITA classical shade range. Thanks to its adaptive opacity, it appears as opaque as dentin in the body area, while it offers an enamel-like translucency at the bevel and the incisal edge.

Live demonstration of the 3M™ Oral Care Portal and 3M™ Clarity™ Aligner treatment planning.

At different stations across the booth, live demonstrations and hands-on opportunities enabled the visitors to assess the products’ benefits right on the spot. Feedback was excellent, and many of the dental professionals also attended lectures in the speakers’ corner of the booth to learn more about possible application techniques from our valued partners StyleItaliano, Bioclear and Success Simplified. Popular topics included composite veneering, the management of deep carious lesions, injection molding, cementation of indirect restorations and the smart combination of orthodontics and restorative therapy.

This year’s IDS was the first for Solventum after the spin-off from 3M and it was a complete success. The whole Dental Solutions team could not feel happier to have been part of it. Meeting our existing and potential customers, partners and industry stakeholders, being able to collect direct product feedback and valuable input has an exhilarating and motivating effect on every single one of us. The IDS has been a source of fresh ideas, which will help us to never stop developing groundbreaking products to solve some of the biggest challenges dental professionals are currently facing in their daily work environment.
