This male patient presented with lower black triangles following orthodontic treatment with aligners. He was very self-conscious about the appearance of the black triangles, which were visible and caused food to become trapped during meals. Seeking a minimally invasive solution, he opted for Bioclear composite restorations on his lower six teeth to address his concerns.
The challenge:
Black Triangles, affecting 30% of the population, are often caused by periodontal disease or post-adult orthodontics. Many patients actively seek solutions for this common dental concern. Pre treatment of lower black triangles following orthodontic treatment.
The Black Triangles were measured using the Bioclear Black Triangle Gauge.
Anatomical black Triangle mylar Bioclear matrices were selected, and tried in to ensure the proper emergence profile with the surrounding gingiva and papillae.
A rubber dam was applied, and the teeth were discolosed to allow thorough biofilm removal using aluminum trihydroxide powder and Aquasol solution (Aquacare). No tooth preparation was necessary.
Small Black Triangle matrices were positioned on the first tooth both mesially and distally. Shield matrices were placed on adjacent teeth to protect the surrounding spaces.
Bioclear Injection Moulding was performed using 3M™ Scotchbond™ Universal Plus, warmed 3M™ Filtek™ Supreme Flowable, and 3M™ Filtek™ Supreme XTE body paste composite in shade A2.
The central incisor was sculpted and shaped using small 3M™ Sof-Lex™ coarse and medium discs. This process was then repeated for the second central incisor and the lateral incisors.
